The plot follows Alice and her companions aboard the Umbrella Corporation freighter *Arcadia*, which comes under attack by a fleet of V-22 Ospreys led by Alice’s brainwashed former ally, Jill Valentine. The assault results in the death of many survivors, and Alice herself is captured. The fates of Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, and K-Mart remain uncertain.
The story then shifts to a suburban setting where Alice lives with her husband, Todd, and her deaf daughter, Becky. Zombies suddenly attack, revealing that the suburb is actually Raccoon City during the T-virus outbreak. Alice and Becky escape with the help of Rain Ocampo, who drives them away in her car. However, their vehicle is hit by a garbage truck, leaving Rain unconscious. Alice hides Becky in a house but is ultimately killed by a zombified Todd.
Meanwhile, the real Alice awakens in an underground facility where she is interrogated by Jill. A power failure allows Alice to escape her cell and navigate through a simulation of Tokyo’s Shibuya Square, battling zombies along the way. She reaches a control room filled with dead Umbrella employees and encounters Ada Wong, a top agent of Albert Wesker. Wesker reveals that he and Ada no longer serve Umbrella and that the power outage was orchestrated by him. He explains that the facility, located underwater in Kamchatka, Russia, was once a Soviet naval outpost and is now used by Umbrella for cloning and simulating T-virus outbreaks.
Ada and Alice plan to meet a rescue team organized by Wesker, which includes Leon S. Kennedy, Barry Burton, and Luther West, Alice’s former ally who survived the Los Angeles outbreak. Leon’s team plants explosives near the facility’s entrance, set to detonate in two hours to ensure its destruction.
