Description: Carol Ledoux, a reserved and beautiful Belgian manicurist, lives in London with her older sister, Helen. Carol struggles with detachment and finds daily interactions challenging. A man named Colin tries to win her affection, but Carol remains indifferent. She feels uneasy about her sister’s relationship with Michael, whom she dislikes. The presence of his razor and toothbrush in the bathroom irritates her, and she is disturbed by the sounds of Helen and Michael’s intimacy at night.
One day, on her way home from work, Carol becomes fixated on a crack in the sidewalk. Colin approaches her, but she struggles to engage in conversation. He drives her home and attempts to kiss her, but she pulls away, returning to her apartment to brush her teeth aggressively before breaking into tears. Later, Helen questions Carol for throwing Michael’s toiletries in the trash. At the salon, Carol’s detachment grows; she barely speaks to coworkers or clients, prompting her boss to send her home early.
When Helen and Michael leave for a holiday in Italy, Carol remains alone in the apartment. She takes a rabbit from the fridge for dinner but becomes distracted by Michael’s belongings scattered around the house. The smell of his unwashed shirt causes her to vomit. After trying on one of Helen’s dresses, she notices a dark figure in the mirror, hinting at her deteriorating mental state.
