**Storyline:**
On Christmas Eve in 1989, aspiring filmmaker Mark Cohen and his roommate, Roger Davis, discover that their landlord and former friend, Benjamin “Benny” Coffin III, has reinstated the rent that was previously waived. Their ex-roommate, Tom Collins, arrives but is soon mugged. When Mark and Roger meet with Benny, he reveals his plan to evict the homeless from a nearby lot and construct a cyber studio. He offers them free rent if they convince Mark’s ex-girlfriend, Maureen, to cancel her protest against his project, but they decline.
Angel, a street drummer who is HIV-positive, finds Collins, and the two bond over their shared condition. Roger, also HIV-positive and a recovering drug addict, struggles to compose what he hopes will be his final great song. His downstairs neighbor, Mimi, an exotic dancer and heroin addict, visits him, sparking a complex connection.
On Christmas Day, Collins and Angel, now in full drag, bring gifts to Mark and Roger. They invite Mark and Roger to join Life Support, an AIDS support group. While Roger declines, Mark attends to fix Maureen’s sound equipment and meets Joanne, Maureen’s new girlfriend, with whom he discusses Maureen’s promiscuity.
Mimi later visits Roger, who rejects her advances, haunted by the memory of his ex-girlfriend’s suicide after discovering they were both HIV-positive. Roger eventually joins Mark, Collins, and Angel at a Life Support meeting, where they dream of moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Meanwhile, Angel and Collins begin to fall in love, while Roger and Mark prepare for Maureen’s performance.
This story follows a group of friends navigating love, loss, and survival amidst the challenges of life and the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
