**Storyline:**
In modern Russia, Dominika Egorova, a talented ballerina, supports her ailing mother. However, a career-ending injury forces her into a new path. Her uncle Ivan, the Deputy Director of the SVR, recruits her to seduce a Russian gangster named Dimitry Ustinov in exchange for her mother’s medical care. During their meeting, Ustinov assaults her, only to be killed by Sergei Matorin, an SVR operative authorized by Ivan. Dominika is then given a choice: join the SVR or face execution for witnessing the assassination.
Meanwhile, CIA operative Nate Nash is reassigned to Budapest to reconnect with Marble, a mole within Russian intelligence. Dominika is sent to State School 4, a training facility for “Sparrows”—SVR agents skilled in seduction and espionage. Despite conflicts with her trainer, Dominika excels and is assigned to Budapest to gain Nash’s trust and uncover Marble’s identity.
In Budapest, Dominika shares a residence with another Sparrow, Marta Yelenova, and is monitored by SVR station chief Maxim Volontov. Nash quickly recognizes Dominika as a Russian operative but attempts to persuade her to defect. As Dominika investigates Marta’s activities, she discovers her involvement in a plot to purchase classified intelligence from Stephanie Boucher, a U.S. Senator’s chief of staff.
