Description: South Korean thrillers are consistently captivating. Last year’s Netflix film *The Call* was a gripping psychological thriller, though quite distinct from *Recalled*. Despite their differences, I highly recommend *The Call* for its outstanding performances, especially by the lead actors. *Recalled* offers a unique yet equally compelling experience.
The film begins with Soo-jin in a hospital, where her husband Ji-hoon and nurses attempt to comfort her. Having lost her memory, Soo-jin gradually revisits her past life and the events leading up to the accident. This setup immediately sets a tense tone, as losing one’s memory is a terrifying ordeal. Relearning your identity while questioning the trustworthiness of those around you adds to the suspense.
As Soo-jin returns home, she faces another challenge when she becomes trapped in a malfunctioning elevator. Just when things seem to improve, she begins experiencing disturbing visions of the future that start coming true, plunging her into further chaos.
*Recalled* is a masterfully crafted, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Its pacing is impeccable, creating a sense of urgency from the very beginning. Soo-jin’s plight is compounded by the disbelief of the doctors, who dismiss her visions as hallucinations, and her husband’s concern for her mental health. Alone in her struggle, the tension only intensifies, making this film a must-watch for thriller enthusiasts.
