Description: Rebels of the Neon God is a 1994 film that follows Hsiao Kang, a young man attending a cram school while living with his parents. Parallel to his story, Ah Tze and Ah Ping are small-time criminals. One night, after returning to his flooded apartment, Ah Tze encounters Ah Kuei, a young woman who had spent the night with his brother, a car salesman. Disoriented, Ah Kuei accepts a ride from Ah Tze on his motorcycle. Meanwhile, Hsiao Kang’s motorcycle is seized, and his father, a taxi driver, gives him a lift to school, hoping to connect with his son. During a traffic altercation, Ah Tze maliciously damages the mirror on Hsiao Kang’s father’s taxi.
Ah Tze, Ah Ping, and Ah Kuei spend the night drinking together, leaving Ah Kuei passed out in a hotel room. The next morning, she calls Ah Tze, seeking to see him again. Simultaneously, Hsiao Kang quits his cram school, receives a refund, and chooses not to return home. Instead, he encounters Ah Tze and begins following him, eventually witnessing Ah Tze and Ah Ping stealing arcade machine motherboards.
When Ah Tze reunites with Ah Kuei, she expresses anger at being stood up. They rent a hotel room and spend the night together. In the meantime, Hsiao Kang locates Ah Tze’s motorcycle and vandalizes it. After being away for days, Hsiao Kang attempts to go home, but his parents, having discovered he dropped out of school, refuse to let him in. He ends up staying at the same hotel where Ah Tze and Ah Kuei are, taking pleasure in watching Ah Tze find his damaged motorcycle.
