Description: In the year 2020, human boxers have been replaced by robotic fighters. Charlie Kenton, a former boxer, owns a robot named Ambush but loses it in a fight against a bull owned by Ricky, a promoter and carnival owner. After betting on Ambush’s victory, Charlie flees before Ricky can demand payment. Following the fight, Charlie discovers that his ex-girlfriend has passed away, and he is required to attend a hearing to determine the future of their son, Max. Max is a passionate fan of robot boxing, but Charlie has had virtually no relationship with him since his birth. Max’s aunt, Debra, and her wealthy husband, Marvin, seek full custody. Charlie negotiates a deal for $100,000, with half paid upfront, in exchange for temporarily caring for Max for three months while Debra and Marvin are on vacation.
Charlie settles in a gym owned by Bailey Tallet, the daughter of his former boxing coach. He acquires a once-famous robot, Noisy Boy, but it is destroyed in an underground match against another robot, Midas. While scavenging parts in a junkyard to build a new robot, Max discovers Atom, an outdated but durable sparring robot designed to endure heavy damage. Atom has a unique “shadow function” that allows it to mimic the movements of its opponent and handler, storing these actions in its memory.
At Max’s insistence, Charlie enters Atom into a match against Metro, which Atom wins. Max programs Atom with Noisy Boy’s vocal-response controls and persuades Charlie to help train Atom’s fighting techniques. This leads to a series of victories, culminating in an offer to compete in the World Robot Boxing league. Atom faces off against the national champion, Twin Cities. Despite a strong start, Twin Cities gains the upper hand. Charlie notices a flaw in Twin Cities’ right punch and uses this weakness to secure a knockout victory.
Emboldened by their success, Max challenges Zeus, the undefeated global champion, and the crowd rallies behind them. However, after the fight, Ricky and his henchmen attack Charlie, stealing their earnings and leaving Charlie defeated. He reluctantly returns Max to Debra, but the journey has brought father and son closer than ever before.
