Description: Three years after the events in Hope, Washington, former US Army Green Beret John Rambo is visited by his old friend and former mission commander, Colonel Sam Trautman, at a rural labor prison. With the Vietnam War officially over, public concern grows over reports that a small group of US prisoners of war (POWs) remain captive in Vietnam. To address these concerns, the US government authorizes a solo reconnaissance mission to verify the reports. Rambo agrees to undertake the mission in exchange for a pardon. Temporarily reinstated into the US Army, he travels to Thailand and meets Marshall Murdock, the bureaucrat in charge of the operation. Rambo is instructed only to photograph the suspected POW camp and avoid rescuing any prisoners or engaging with enemy forces, as a better-equipped extraction team will handle the prisoners upon his return.
During the mission, Rambo’s parachute malfunctions, leaving him with only his knife, bow, and arrows. He meets Co Bao, a Vietnamese intelligence agent, who arranges transportation via river pirates. Reaching the camp, Rambo spots a prisoner tied to a cross-shaped post and, defying orders, rescues him. Their escape is hindered when Vietnamese troops attack, prompting the pirates to betray them and attempt to hand them over for a reward. Rambo kills the pirates, destroys an armored gunboat, and ensures the prisoner and Co Bao reach safety. However, the rescue helicopter aborts the mission on Murdock’s orders, as Rambo violated his instructions.
