Description: Rama Rao On Duty (2022) is a multi-language film available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. The story revolves around an honest Mandal Revenue Officer, Rama Rao, who is transferred to his hometown in Chittoor. While searching for a missing man, he uncovers a smuggling network. Directed by Sarath Mandava, the film struggles to balance being a thriller and a masala entertainer, resulting in a lack of engagement. The narrative overloads viewers with information about government duties and red sanders smuggling, while excessive punch dialogues, slow-motion fight scenes, and unnecessary song sequences detract from the plot.
Set in the 1990s, Rama Rao (Ravi Teja) is portrayed as a dedicated officer who goes beyond his call of duty. Despite his unorthodox methods, he is transferred to remote areas instead of being disciplined. He returns home with his wife Nandini (Divyansha Kaushik) and their young son, reuniting with family and friends. Meanwhile, his ex-flame Malini (Rajisha Vijayan) searches for her missing husband to settle debts, and CI Jammi Murali (Venu) investigates a missing consignment for personal gain. Rama Rao’s quest for the missing person leads him to uncover a deeper conspiracy involving red sandalwood smuggling, revealing that not everything in his hometown is as it seems.
Although the premise of Rama Rao On Duty appears intriguing, the execution falls flat, making it a tedious watch. The film’s exploration of corruption and smuggling feels repetitive, failing to deliver a fresh or compelling narrative.
