Storyline:
Creating a POV (point of view) film, much like “Cloverfield,” is no simple feat. The team behind “Rakkhosh” faced additional challenges as the film marked the first complete POV movie in Indian cinema. The movie has already garnered recognition, winning the “Special Jury Award for Best Director in Hindi Film” at the Rajasthan International Film Festival.
The story revolves around Birsa, whose perspective drives the narrative. Birsa is a mental patient residing in an asylum that houses over 2,000 patients but is staffed by only 40 workers. His sole companion is a mysterious old man named Kumar John. Strange occurrences plague the asylum as patients frequently disappear, and rumors of a terrifying entity called Rakkhosh (demon) spread fear among the residents.
As the plot unfolds, Kumar John’s alleged daughter, Ridhima, an NGO worker, begins investigating these mysterious events. Through flashbacks, Birsa’s past comes to light, blending with his distorted reality as hidden secrets emerge.
The POV technique is the film’s defining feature, shaping its narrative. Basile Pierrat utilized a Red Dragon 6K camera and designed a custom rig to achieve this effect. The result is a seamless integration of POV visuals, perfectly complementing the story’s disorienting and mysterious tone.
