Description: “Raat Baaki Hai,” directed by Avinash Das, is a 2021 suspense drama set in Rajasthan. The story begins with a successful writer, Kartik Sharma (played by Annup Soni), getting engaged to renowned Bollywood actress Vani Chopra (Dipannita Sharma Atwal). However, the engagement takes a tragic turn when Vani is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Her murder triggers a chain of chaotic events, forcing Kartik to flee. He ends up at a palace, where he unexpectedly reunites with his former lover, Vasuki (Paoli Dam).
Meanwhile, a sharp and determined police officer, Rajesh Ahlawat (Rahul Dev), is assigned to investigate the murder. As he questions the attendees of the engagement party, he discovers Kartik’s absence, making him the prime suspect in Vani’s death. The film explores whether Ahlawat can unravel the mystery and bring the real culprit to justice.
While the screenplay by Siddharth Mishra starts promisingly, the narrative begins to falter, especially during the scenes where Kartik and Vasuki revisit their troubled past. Initially focused on the murder investigation, the story gradually becomes entangled in the complex histories and present lives of Kartik, Vasuki, and Vani. The climax, however, offers unexpected twists that keep the audience engaged.
Rahul Dev delivers a strong performance as the stoic and morally ambiguous cop, while Annup Soni effectively portrays the emotional turmoil of his character. Paoli Dam, as Vasuki, brings elegance and depth to her role.
Despite its intriguing premise and notable performances, “Raat Baaki Hai” struggles to maintain the suspense and entertainment value it promises. The film’s exploration of past and present relationships adds layers to the story, but the execution falls short of creating a truly gripping thriller.
