**Storyline:**
Vijay is a struggling and idealistic poet whose work is dismissed by publishers. Instead of focusing on conventional romantic themes, he addresses pressing social issues like unemployment and poverty, which leads to rejection. His brothers mock his passion, even attempting to sell his poems as scrap paper. Unable to endure their ridicule, Vijay leaves home in search of his lost work.
During this time, he meets Gulabo, a prostitute who admires his poetry and falls in love with him. Meanwhile, his former lover, Meena, has married Ghosh, a wealthy publisher, for financial security. Ghosh hires Vijay as a servant to spy on him and Meena. A tragic incident occurs when a beggar, to whom Vijay had given his coat, is mistaken for Vijay after a fatal accident. Believing Vijay is dead, Gulabo persuades Ghosh to publish his poems, hoping to honor his legacy.
The poems gain immense popularity, but Vijay is alive, recovering in a hospital after the accident. Ghosh and Shyam, Vijay’s close friend, refuse to acknowledge him, leading to his commitment to a mental asylum. Vijay’s brothers are bribed by Ghosh to deny his identity, and a grand memorial is organized for the “deceased” poet.
With the help of his friend Abdul Sattar, Vijay escapes the asylum and confronts the attendees at the memorial, exposing the hypocrisy and corruption of the world. As his true identity is revealed, his brothers and friend side with a rival publisher for financial gain. Disillusioned by the greed and deceit around him, Vijay rejects the honors bestowed on him and chooses to begin a new life with Gulabo, leaving the materialistic world behind.
