Storyline:
After the events of *Shrek Forever After*, Puss in Boots throws a party at the mansion of Del Mar’s governor. During a fight with the governor’s men, he accidentally awakens an earthen giant, which he manages to defeat. However, Puss is later crushed by a bell. After waking up, a doctor informs him that he has only one life left, as he has already used up his previous eight. The doctor advises Puss to retire to preserve his remaining time. Initially dismissive, Puss encounters a mysterious hooded wolf in a pub who draws his blood, prompting him to seek safety with Mama Luna, an elderly cat lady. He buries his iconic attire outside her home, seemingly leaving his outlaw life behind.
As time passes, Puss, now bearded, meets Perrito, an optimistic dog pretending to be a cat. Their meeting is interrupted when the Three Bears Crime Family and Goldilocks arrive, searching for Puss. They inadvertently reveal the existence of “The Wishing Star” and mention that a map leading to it will be delivered to Big Jack Horner that night. Seeing this as a chance to regain his lost lives, Puss, along with Kitty Softpaws—who holds a grudge for being abandoned on their wedding day—and Perrito, steal the map from Jack’s bakery. During their escape, Puss catches sight of the hooded wolf stalking him.
The map guides the trio to the Dark Forest, which transforms based on the map wielder’s perspective. Puss and Kitty experience nightmarish terrains, while Perrito encounters a peaceful, colorful forest with dangerous, man-eating roses. Choosing Perrito’s path, the trio navigates the forest, with Puss getting his beard shaved off by Kitty as they journey further.
