They interpret this as a message from humanity’s creators, known as the “Engineers.” Funded by Peter Weyland, CEO of Weyland Corporation, the scientific vessel *Prometheus* embarks on an expedition to the distant moon LV-223. The crew travels in stasis, monitored by the android David. Arriving in 2093, they are instructed by mission director Meredith Vickers to locate the Engineers but avoid contact without her approval.
The *Prometheus* lands near a massive artificial structure. Inside, the team finds stone cylinders, a statue of a humanoid head, and the decapitated corpse of an alien believed to be an Engineer. Shaw retrieves the head, and the crew concludes the species is extinct. Two crew members, Millburn and Fifield, become uneasy and try to return to the ship but get lost. A storm forces the team to cut the expedition short.
Back on the ship, David secretly takes a cylinder from the structure, and the remaining cylinders start leaking a dark liquid. Analysis reveals the Engineer’s DNA matches humans. David experiments with the liquid by contaminating Holloway’s drink. Shortly after, Shaw and Holloway become intimate.
