Two engineers, Aaron and Abe, spend their spare time working on innovative tech projects in Aaron’s garage alongside their regular jobs. While experimenting with electromagnetic fields to reduce the weight of objects, they accidentally discover a time loop effect. Objects placed in the field begin to move forward in time and then reverse, creating a continuous loop. This phenomenon allows objects to exit the field in the present or at a previous point in time.
Abe furthers the experiment and develops a stable device, referred to as “the box,” capable of sending a person back in time. Using this box, Abe travels six hours into his own past. To avoid altering events, he isolates himself in a hotel room before entering the box. After the six-hour journey, he exits the box, locates Aaron, and explains the process. Together, they observe a past version of Abe entering the box.
Aaron and Abe repeat the experiment multiple times, using their future knowledge to make profitable stock trades. However, their personalities clash—Abe is cautious and controlling, while Aaron is impulsive and prone to interference. The physical toll of time travel also becomes evident, as their bodies endure 36-hour days due to the additional time spent in the box. Over time, they experience alarming side effects, including earbleeds and deteriorating handwriting.
The tension between the two escalates after an encounter with Thomas Granger, the father of Abe’s girlfriend, Rachel. Granger appears in an unexpected state, unshaven and seemingly overlapping with his original self. After being pursued by Aaron, Granger falls into a coma, further complicating the situation.
