Description: In the Cenozoic era, a group of powerful warriors called the Power Rangers were responsible for safeguarding life on Earth and the Zeo Crystal. However, the Green Ranger, Rita Repulsa, betrays them and aims to conquer the universe. The Red Ranger, Zordon, survives Rita’s attack and hides five Power Coins. He instructs his robotic assistant, Alpha 5, to trigger a meteor strike that ends up killing him, the dinosaurs, and sends Rita to the bottom of the ocean, thwarting her plans.
In the 21st century, in Angel Grove, high school football star Jason Scott is expelled from the team and placed under house arrest after a prank goes wrong. During detention, he meets Billy Cranston, a class nerd, and Kimberly Hart, a former cheerleader. Billy offers to disable Jason’s ankle monitor if he helps him reach an old gold mine. While exploring the mine, Jason encounters Kimberly swimming in a lake. Billy sets off explosives to break some rocks, attracting the attention of Jason, Kimberly, and two other students, Trini Kwan and Zack Taylor. The group discovers the Power Coins, each taking one. During their escape from mine security, their car is hit by a train. Miraculously, they wake up at home the next day, realizing the coins have given them superhuman abilities. Meanwhile, Rita’s body is discovered, and she awakens, going on a rampage to gather gold and revive her minion, Goldar, to find the Zeo Crystal.
The five teenagers return to the mine and find an ancient spaceship, where they meet Alpha 5 and Zordon’s consciousness. They learn about the history of the Power Rangers and Rita’s threat, warning that they have two weeks to stop her before she gains full power, locates the Zeo Crystal, and destroys Earth. Zordon urges Jason to unite the team to fight Rita. The group spends the week training against simulated Putties and attempting to morph, without success. To motivate them, Alpha reveals the Zords. However, Zack takes his Zord for a reckless joyride, nearly causing disaster for the team.
