**Storyline:**
While many Kollywood films have briefly featured post offices as settings, Praveen’s *Pothanur Thabal Nilayam* centers entirely around one. This suspense drama, set in the 1990s, explores the events that unfold within a post office. Praveen, who both directs and stars in the film, explains, “Pothanur was the first post office established in Coimbatore, over 150 years ago, which inspired the title. The film is set against the backdrop of a post office, delving into the activities inside the building.”
Interestingly, the film is planned as a trilogy. “The story required expansion into three parts. Shooting for the first part is complete, and we will simultaneously begin filming parts two and three,” Praveen shares.
The director’s inspiration for the post office setting comes from his father, who worked there. “Post offices appear briefly in films now, but my father’s connection to it gave me insight. I visited his workplace and understood its operations. While the process depicted in the film is authentic, the story itself is fictional,” he adds.
Praveen stars as the lead, alongside Anjali Rao, who has acted in films and TV serials. Venkat Sundar and Jagan Krish also play pivotal roles. “Additionally, 75 theater artists from Coimbatore contributed to this project,” says Praveen, who previously worked as an animator and technical director for *Kochadaiiyaan*.
The film was shot across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. “Although the story is set in Coimbatore, we needed locations that reflected the period accurately, necessitating shoots in other areas,” the director explains.
