Description: In an alternate 2008, Tasya Vos is an assassin who uses advanced technology to take control of other people’s bodies to execute her missions. She employs a brain implant to transfer her consciousness into her unsuspecting hosts, manipulating them to carry out deadly hits. To return to her own body, Vos forces the host to commit suicide at the end of each assignment.
However, the extensive time spent inhabiting others causes Vos to lose touch with her own identity. She struggles to separate her professional life from her personal relationships with her husband, Michael, and their young son, Ira. Vos even practices acting like her “normal self,” much like she rehearses embodying her hosts. Violent thoughts invade her daily life, surfacing during routine activities like putting Ira to bed or being intimate with Michael.
Her handler, Girder, a retired assassin, criticizes her attachment to her family, believing it hinders her effectiveness as a killer. During a debriefing session designed to help Vos reconnect with her true self, she reflects on her past and expresses guilt over a childhood memory—pinning and framing a butterfly.
Despite her deteriorating mental state and growing exhaustion, Vos agrees to a high-profile assignment: assassinating wealthy CEO John Parse and his daughter, Ava, by taking over Ava’s fiancé, Colin Tate. The mission goes awry; Ava is killed, but Parse survives. When Vos tries to exit Tate’s body by forcing him to shoot himself, he resists and stabs himself in the skull instead. This damages the implant, trapping Vos in Tate’s body. Unable to overpower his will, Vos discovers she cannot return to her own body.
Meanwhile, Tate regains control, only to find himself haunted by fragmented memories and experiences from Vos’s life, unaware of why he killed his girlfriend. The boundaries between their identities blur, leaving both trapped in a dangerous psychological battle.
