Description: Inspector Chan Ka-kui has been demoted to highway patrol due to his handling of a previous case, which involved the violent arrest of crime lord Chu Tao and significant property damage. His new role pleases his girlfriend, May, who is relieved that her boyfriend is no longer taking on dangerous cases and has more time to spend with her. However, the situation takes a turn when Ka-Kui encounters Chu Tao and his right-hand man, John Ko. Chu Tao, terminally ill with only three months to live, has been released from prison and vows to make Ka-Kui’s life difficult.
John Ko and his henchmen confront Ka-Kui at his apartment, provoking him to react. Later, May and her aunt are assaulted by John Ko and his men, pushing Ka-Kui to the brink. Unable to contain his anger, Ka-Kui retaliates against John Ko and his gang at a restaurant. Overwhelmed by guilt for his actions, Ka-Kui resigns from the Royal Hong Kong Police Force. He plans a trip to Bali with May, but while at a travel agency in a shopping mall, he learns of a bomb threat.
Unable to ignore his instincts, Ka-Kui advises the police to sound the fire alarm and evacuate the mall, taking responsibility for the decision. A bomb explodes, destroying the entire mall. Ka-Kui is commended for his actions and reinstated to the police force, tasked with investigating the bombing. He plants a listening device in the mall property company’s office to gather information on the bombers, leading him to a suspect who is a deaf-mute and skilled in martial arts and explosives.
The bombing gang, aware of the police’s pursuit, plans simultaneous attacks on the property company and police headquarters. They double their ransom demand to $20 million and kidnap May, setting a trap for Ka-Kui. He is forced to wear an explosive vest and retrieve the extortion money from the property company.
