Description: In 1607, the Susan Constant departs from London, heading to the New World with English settlers from the Virginia Company. During the journey, the ship faces a fierce North Atlantic storm. Captain John Smith, a man who dreams of adventure, rescues Thomas, a young and inexperienced crewmate, from drowning. As the settlers approach the New World, they discuss their hopes of adventure, discovering gold, encountering indigenous people, and potentially establishing a new colony.
Meanwhile, in the Powhatan tribe of Tsenacommacah, Virginia, Pocahontas, the spirited daughter of Chief Powhatan, worries about being wed to Kocoum, a serious warrior who doesn’t align with her free-spirited nature. Her father gifts her a necklace that once belonged to her mother. Seeking guidance, Pocahontas visits Grandmother Willow, a wise and mystical talking tree, sharing a dream about a spinning arrow and her uncertainty about her life’s path. Grandmother Willow then alerts Pocahontas to the arrival of the English settlers.
Governor Ratcliffe, the greedy leader of the expedition, orders the construction of Jamestown and tasks the men with digging for gold, driven by his desire for wealth and status. John, however, ventures into the wilderness, where he meets Pocahontas. Initially, he only hears her mimicking Native American sounds, but with Grandmother Willow’s help, he gains the ability to understand her. The two quickly form a bond, captivated by each other’s cultures, and eventually fall in love despite Chief Powhatan’s warnings to avoid the Englishmen, especially after a clash between Kocoum’s warriors and the settlers. Meanwhile, Meeko, Pocahontas’ raccoon companion, befriends Percy, Ratcliffe’s pampered pug, though their relationship is anything but smooth. When John mentions his crew’s search for gold, Pocahontas informs him that there is no gold to be found.
