Description: In 1982, 13-year-old Sam Brenner and his friend Will Cooper visit a video game arcade, where Brenner discovers his talent for mastering games by recognizing patterns. During a championship game of *Donkey Kong*, Brenner appears to lose to the arrogant Eddie “the Fireblaster” Plant. Footage of this event is later included in a time capsule sent into space. Decades later, Brenner works as a home theater installer, while Cooper becomes the disliked President of the United States. When the Andersen Air Force Base in Guam is attacked by aliens using *Galaga*-style technology, soldiers are abducted, and the situation escalates.
Brenner meets U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Violet van Patten while working at her home. Both are called to the White House, where Brenner deduces that the aliens misinterpreted the video footage from 1982 as a declaration of war. The aliens challenge Earth to a series of battles based on classic arcade games, threatening to conquer the planet if they win three rounds. Despite their efforts, Brenner and Cooper fail to prevent an attack that destroys the Taj Mahal in the form of *Arkanoid*, resulting in another abduction.
Brenner and Ludlow “the Wonder Kid” Lamonsoff train Navy SEALs in gaming strategies, while Violet develops rayguns to combat the aliens. During an attack in London’s Hyde Park using *Centipede*-style technology, Brenner and Ludlow successfully defeat the aliens, who send a congratulatory “trophy” in the form of the *Duck Hunt* dog. The team then recruits Eddie Plant, recently released from prison for fraud, to assist in the final battle. In New York City, they face their ultimate challenge: a life-sized game of *Pac-Man* where they must act as the ghosts to defeat the aliens.
