Description: Three years after their first championship win, the Barden Bellas, now led by senior Beca Mitchell and three-time super senior Chloe Beale, have secured three consecutive ICCA National titles. However, their reign is threatened by a scandal dubbed “Muffgate.” During a performance for President Barack Obama’s birthday at the Kennedy Center, Patricia “Fat Amy” Hobart accidentally exposes herself due to a wardrobe malfunction. This incident leads to the group’s suspension from the ICCA, though they retain their previous titles.
Beca negotiates a deal: the Bellas can regain their standing if they win the Acapella World Championship. Meanwhile, freshman Emily Junk, inspired by her mother’s legacy, hopes to join the Bellas. At college orientation, she witnesses a performance by the Treblemakers, now led by Beca’s boyfriend, Jesse Swanson. Jesse’s friend Benji Applebaum immediately develops a crush on Emily.
The Bellas face new challenges as the German powerhouse group, Das Sound Machine (DSM), replaces them on their victory tour and becomes the favorite to win the Worlds. Beca, secretly interning at a recording studio, keeps her new career aspirations under wraps.
With their suspension preventing formal auditions, Emily approaches the Bellas directly, performing her original song “Flashlight.” Impressed, the group welcomes her, as her initiative doesn’t break any rules. The Bellas encounter DSM at a car show, where the German group mocks them, establishing a fierce rivalry.
