Description: Piranha 3D is a 2010 horror film set during spring break at Lake Victoria. The story begins with a fisherman named Matt Boyd, who is caught in a whirlpool caused by an earthquake. He is tragically devoured by a swarm of aggressive piranhas that emerge from a newly formed fissure in the lake.
As spring break festivities kick off, Jake Forester reconnects with his old crush, Kelly, and meets her arrogant boyfriend, Todd Dupree. Jake also encounters Derrick Jones, a shady pornographer, and his actress, Danni. Derrick convinces Jake to help him find ideal filming locations on the lake for an adult movie. Meanwhile, Jake’s mother, Sheriff Julie Forester, investigates Matt Boyd’s disappearance with her deputy. They discover his mutilated body and consider closing the lake. However, the decision becomes complicated due to the influx of college students celebrating spring break, a crucial source of revenue for the town.
The next day, a cliff diver is attacked and consumed by the piranhas. Jake’s younger siblings, Zane and Laura, venture out on a canoe to fish but become stranded in the middle of the lake after Zane fails to secure the boat properly. Meanwhile, Jake joins Kelly on Derrick’s boat, where he meets Derrick’s other actress, Crystal, and his cameraman, Andrew.
Sheriff Julie teams up with seismologist divers Novak, Sam, and Paula to investigate the fissure. Novak theorizes it leads to a prehistoric lake. During their dive, Sam and Paula discover a cavern filled with piranha eggs but are killed by the ferocious fish before they can report their findings. Novak and Julie recover Paula’s body and capture a piranha, which they take to Carl Goodman, a retired marine biologist. He identifies the species as *Pygocentrus nattereri*, a prehistoric piranha believed extinct for over 2 million years. These creatures have survived through cannibalism and are capable of rapidly devouring their prey.
The film combines suspense, horror, and action as the town faces the deadly threat of these ancient predators.
