**Storyline:**
At the Empire State Building, Zeus confronts Poseidon, accusing Poseidon’s demigod son, Percy Jackson, of stealing Zeus’s master lightning bolt. Poseidon insists Percy is unaware of his divine heritage, but Zeus warns that failure to return the bolt to Mount Olympus by the Summer Solstice midnight will ignite a war among the gods.
Percy, a 16-year-old struggling with dyslexia and ADHD, discovers his unique ability to stay underwater. During a school trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he is attacked by Alecto, a Fury disguised as his substitute teacher. Alecto demands the lightning bolt, but Percy is aided by his best friend Grover Underwood and Latin teacher Mr. Brunner, who provides him with a magical pen that transforms into a powerful weapon.
Grover and Mr. Brunner guide Percy and his mother, Sally, to Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary for demigod children. Along the way, they face the Minotaur, which seemingly kills Sally. Percy overcomes his fears and defeats the Minotaur using its own horn but collapses from shock.
Upon waking, Percy learns he is Poseidon’s son, Grover is a satyr tasked with protecting him, and Mr. Brunner is Chiron, a centaur. At Camp Half-Blood, Percy trains in his newfound abilities, including water manipulation and healing. He befriends other demigods, such as Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, and Luke Castellan, son of Hermes.
Percy learns that Hades has kidnapped Sally and plans to trade her for the lightning bolt. Defying Chiron’s orders, Percy, Grover, and Annabeth embark on a quest to the Underworld. Luke assists them by providing a map to Persephone’s pearls, which will allow them to escape, along with winged shoes and his shield. Together, they face numerous challenges to rescue Sally and prevent a divine war.
