**Storyline:**
In 1923 Tennessee, two close friends, Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker, fantasize about being soldiers fighting the German Empire during World War I while playing in an old biplane. By January 1941, with World War II underway, both friends serve as first lieutenants under Major Jimmy Doolittle. Rafe is accepted into the Eagle Squadron, an RAF unit for American pilots during the Battle of Britain. During this time, he meets Evelyn Johnson, a nurse who helps him pass his medical exam despite his dyslexia, and the two develop a strong bond.
Shortly after, Rafe surprises Evelyn by revealing he’s leaving to join the Eagle Squadron. During a mission, Rafe is shot down over the English Channel and presumed dead. Grieving his loss, Evelyn finds solace in Danny, sparking a new romance. Meanwhile, Japan prepares to attack the US fleet in retaliation for the oil supply cutoff.
On December 6, Evelyn is stunned when Rafe returns alive after surviving his crash and escaping Nazi-occupied France. Discovering Danny and Evelyn’s relationship, Rafe confronts Danny, leading to a heated argument. The following morning, on December 7, the Imperial Japanese Navy launches a devastating surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, crippling the US Pacific Fleet and destroying much of its defensive capabilities.
