Storyline:
In the near future, Michael Jennings works as a reverse engineer, analyzing and improving his clients’ competitors’ technology. To protect both his clients’ intellectual property and himself, Jennings undergoes a memory wipe after each project, erasing all knowledge of his work, with the help of his friend Shorty.
Jennings is approached by his college roommate, James Rethrick, who is now the CEO of Allcom, a prominent technology company. Rethrick offers Jennings a three-year project that requires him to stay on Allcom’s campus. In return, Jennings will receive company stock. Despite initial hesitation, Jennings agrees. After receiving the memory marker, he tours the campus and meets biologist Dr. Rachel Porter, with whom he flirts. Rethrick also introduces Jennings to his work partner, physicist William Dekker.
Three years later, Jennings wakes up after the memory wipe and is congratulated by Rethrick. He learns that the Allcom stock he earned is worth over $92 million. However, upon visiting his lawyer, he discovers he had voluntarily given away the stock weeks earlier. He is given an envelope containing a seemingly random assortment of items, which he had supposedly brought with him to Allcom. Confused, Jennings is soon arrested by the FBI.
Agent Dodge accuses Jennings of accessing classified government designs allegedly stolen by Dekker, who is now deceased. Due to the memory wipe, Jennings cannot explain himself but manages to escape using the items from the envelope. As he evades the FBI, Rethrick’s associate John Wolfe spots Jennings and informs Rethrick that they have a problem.
