**Storyline:**
Jack Ryan, a former CIA analyst, now teaches history at the United States Naval Academy. While in London with his wife, Cathy, a physician, and their young daughter, Sally, Ryan intervenes in a terrorist kidnapping attempt on Lord William Holmes, the British Minister of State for Northern Ireland and a cousin to the Queen. Ryan is injured but manages to disarm one terrorist and kill two others. Among the attackers, Ryan subdues Sean Miller, whose younger brother is killed in the confrontation. The terrorists belong to a radical IRA splinter group led by Kevin O’Donnell.
After the incident, IRA operatives attempt to assassinate O’Donnell, deeming him and his followers too extreme. Meanwhile, Miller is convicted and sentenced. However, during his transfer to prison, O’Donnell and his group ambush the convoy, freeing Miller. They flee to North Africa, where O’Donnell plans another attack on Lord Holmes. Miller, seeking revenge for his brother’s death, is allowed by O’Donnell to travel to the U.S. with a team to assassinate Ryan.
Back in the U.S., Ryan learns of Miller’s escape. Soon after, he narrowly survives an assassination attempt, while Miller targets Cathy, causing a car crash that severely injures Sally. Ryan’s former CIA superior, Vice Admiral James Greer, convinces him to rejoin the agency to help capture the terrorists. During his investigation, Ryan remembers seeing a red-haired woman during the attacks. He approaches Sinn Fein representative Paddy O’Neil for information, but O’Neil denies IRA involvement and refuses to cooperate.
As the situation intensifies, Ryan works to protect his family and bring the terrorists to justice.
