**Storyline:**
In August 2006, a supposed burglary takes place at the home of Kristi and Daniel Rey. The intruders leave the house in chaos, except for the bedroom of their infant son, Hunter. The only item stolen is a necklace given to Kristi by her sister, Katie. Martine, their Latin American housekeeper and nanny, senses the presence of evil spirits in the house and burns sage to cleanse it. Daniel fires her for this action. Kristi believes their home is haunted and shares with Katie her childhood experiences of being tormented by a demon. Daniel initially dismisses her claims, despite seeing disturbing footage.
Daniel’s daughter from a previous marriage, Ali, starts investigating the strange occurrences. She discovers that humans can make deals with demons for wealth or power by offering the soul of their first-born son. If the deal is unfulfilled, the demon will haunt the family until another son is born. Hunter is the first male born on Kristi’s side of the family since the 1930s, making him a target.
The family’s German shepherd, Abby, is attacked by the demon and suffers a seizure. While Daniel and Ali take Abby to the veterinarian, Kristi is dragged into the basement by the demon, which possesses her. The next day, while home with Kristi, Ali hears scratching noises from the basement. Upon opening the door, she finds the word *meus* (Latin for “Mine”) etched into it. A mysterious bite mark on her leg and footage of Kristi’s attack convince Daniel to rehire Martine, who prepares a cross to exorcise the demon. However, Daniel ultimately decides to pass the demon onto Katie to save Kristi and Hunter, despite Ali’s objections.
