Description: “Palm Springs” is a 2020 film that tells the story of Nyles and Sarah, who meet at a wedding reception in Palm Springs on November 9. The event celebrates the marriage of Sarah’s sister, Tala, to Abe. During the celebration, Nyles and Sarah leave the party to spend time together in the nearby desert. As Nyles undresses, he is unexpectedly shot by an arrow from an unseen assailant. Despite being injured, he warns Sarah not to follow him as he crawls into a cave. Ignoring his warning, Sarah follows and is pulled into a mysterious vortex.
When she wakes up, Sarah realizes it is November 9 again. Confused, she confronts Nyles, who explains that she is now trapped in a time loop with him. In this loop, falling asleep or dying resets the day, causing November 9 to repeat endlessly. Sarah tries various ways to break free but fails. Nyles, having been in the loop for a long time, has grown indifferent and no longer attempts to escape.
Over time, Nyles and Sarah grow close, adopting a carefree and reckless lifestyle. They begin to enjoy their shared experiences and look forward to new adventures. Nyles reveals that the man who shot him, Roy, is also stuck in the loop due to Nyles’ actions. Roy occasionally seeks revenge by hunting and harming Nyles.
One night, Nyles and Sarah camp in the desert, share an intimate moment, and wake up the next day only to face the loop again. Sarah learns that her brother-in-law, Abe, remembers their affair from the night before the wedding, leaving her filled with guilt. She distances herself from Nyles, expressing a sense of hopelessness about their situation.
After an encounter with Roy, who disguises himself as a cop, Sarah runs him over. This leads to a heated argument between her and Nyles, during which Nyles admits to lying about their relationship in the loop. Feeling betrayed, Sarah avoids Nyles, leaving him lost and aimless.
As Nyles struggles to cope, he uncovers the truth about Sarah and Abe’s affair. Eventually, he seeks out Roy and reconciles with him. The film explores themes of time, relationships, and the choices people make when faced with seemingly endless repetition.
