Description: Padmaavat, a 2018 historical drama, unfolds in 13th-century Afghanistan featuring Jalal-ud-din Khalji of the Khalji dynasty, who plans to seize the throne of Delhi. Jalaluddin ascends the throne in Delhi and dispatches Alauddin to counter a Mongol invasion. Successful, Alauddin raids Devagiri, capturing a princess and assassinating her husband to make her his concubine. Warnings about Alauddin’s growing ambition are ignored by Jalaluddin, who later gifts Alauddin the slave Malik Kafur. Alauddin orchestrates Jalaluddin’s assassination, declares himself Sultan, and elevates Kafur to a prominent position.
Padmavati joins Ratan Singh in Mewar, where their relationship is blessed by a royal priest, Raghav Chetan. Exiled for witnessing an intimate moment, Chetan informs Alauddin of Padmavati’s beauty. Obsessed with possessing exceptional things, Alauddin invites the Rajputs to Delhi. Upon rejection, he lays siege to Chittor. After months of failed attempts, he feigns peace during Holi, enters Chittor, and captures Ratan Singh after meeting Padmavati briefly.
This epic tale intertwines ambition, love, and betrayal, showcasing the complexities of power and desire in medieval India.
