**Plot Summary:**
In the remote jungles of Peru, a British explorer stumbles upon a previously undiscovered species of bear. Just as he prepares to capture a specimen, another bear playfully intervenes, saving the explorer by removing a deadly scorpion from his jacket. The explorer learns that these bears are intelligent, capable of learning English, and have a strong love for marmalade. He names them Lucy and Pastuzo and invites them to visit London if they ever wish.
Forty years later, Lucy and Pastuzo live peacefully with their orphaned nephew until an earthquake destroys their home, forcing them underground. Tragically, Pastuzo is killed during the disaster. The young bear, encouraged by Aunt Lucy, sets off to London for a better life by stowing away on a ship. Upon arrival, he finds his way to Paddington Station, where he encounters the Brown family.
The Browns take him in temporarily and name him Paddington after the station. While Mr. Brown is skeptical and insists Paddington stay only one night, the rest of the family, including Mrs. Brown and their children, quickly grow fond of him. However, Paddington soon becomes the target of Millicent Clyde, a ruthless taxidermist determined to capture him for the Natural History Museum.
