Description: Russell Baze, a steel mill worker, reconnects with his brother Rodney at a horse racing event. Rodney confesses to losing money he borrowed from John Petty, a bar owner involved in illegal activities. Russell steps in to settle part of Rodney’s debt and vows to cover the rest. Later, Russell causes a fatal car accident while driving under the influence and is sentenced to prison for vehicular manslaughter. During his incarceration, his father passes away, and his girlfriend Lena leaves him for Wesley Barnes, the local police chief.
After his release, Russell returns to his job at the mill. Meanwhile, Rodney participates in an underground bareknuckle fight, where he is expected to lose intentionally to repay his debt. However, Rodney, a war veteran scarred by his experiences, fights back and wins. When Russell discovers evidence of the fight, he confronts Rodney and encourages him to take a job at the mill, but Rodney struggles to adapt to a regular life.
Seeking larger payouts to clear his debt, Rodney convinces Petty to set up a high-stakes fight with Harlan DeGroat, a dangerous drug dealer from rural New Jersey. Simultaneously, Russell tries to reconcile with Lena but learns she is pregnant with Wesley’s child. Heartbroken, Russell wishes her well, acknowledging they can no longer be together. During the fight with DeGroat, Rodney initially puts up a strong fight but eventually takes a dive as instructed. Afterward, tensions rise as DeGroat demands repayment, but Petty insists the fight settled their debt.
