Description: Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) is a gripping supernatural horror film set in 1967 Los Angeles. The story revolves around Alice Zander, a widowed mother working as a spiritual medium from her suburban home, alongside her two daughters—15-year-old Lina and 9-year-old Doris. Still grieving the loss of her husband Roger, Alice introduces a Ouija board into her séances, unknowingly summoning a malevolent spirit named Marcus, which begins to possess Doris.
As financial troubles arise, with the bank threatening to foreclose on their home, Doris turns to the Ouija board for assistance, believing she is communicating with her late father. The spirit guides her to a hidden stash of money in the basement, convincing Alice that they are truly in contact with Roger. However, the situation takes a dark turn when Doris becomes completely controlled by the spirit.
Concerned by her sister’s bizarre behavior, Lina discovers writings by Doris in fluent Polish, a language she doesn’t understand, and seeks help from Father Tom Hogan, her school principal. Father Tom, troubled by the events, conducts a Ouija session with the family, only to realize that Doris is not channeling spirits but reading and echoing the thoughts of those around her.
The film explores themes of grief, deception, and the dangers of dabbling with the supernatural, delivering a chilling tale of possession and fear.
