Filming occurred from February to May 2022, utilizing IMAX 65 mm and large-format film, incorporating practical effects over CGI. The film, edited by Jennifer Lame and scored by Ludwig Göransson, became Nolan’s fourth R-rated movie in the U.S.
Oppenheimer premiered on July 11, 2023, at Le Grand Rex in Paris and opened theatrically in the U.S. and the U.K. on July 21. The simultaneous releases of Oppenheimer and Warner Bros.’ Barbie led to the cultural phenomenon known as “Barbenheimer,” enticing audiences to view both films as a double feature. The film has been well-received by critics, grossing over $948 million worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film of 2023, the top World War II-related film, the highest-grossing biographical film, and the second-highest-grossing R-rated film.
