**Storyline:**
Johnny Friendly, a mob-connected union boss, boasts about his tight grip on the waterfront. Despite the police and the Waterfront Crime Commission being aware of his involvement in multiple murders, witnesses remain silent, fearing the consequences of speaking out.
Terry Malloy, a dockworker, is caught in this web of corruption. His brother, Charley, serves as Johnny’s right-hand man. Once a promising boxer, Terry’s career was sabotaged when Friendly orchestrated his loss in a fight to profit from betting against him. Terry unwittingly helps lure Joey Doyle, a fellow dockworker, into a deadly ambush, believing it was only meant to intimidate Joey. Shocked by Joey’s death, Terry is left grappling with guilt.
Joey’s sister, Edie, devastated by her brother’s murder, urges Father Barry, a waterfront priest, to take a stand against the mob-controlled union. Terry, who is sent by Friendly to spy on a dockworkers’ meeting organized by Father Barry, ends up helping Edie escape the ensuing violence and begins to develop feelings for her.
As tensions rise, another dockworker, Timothy J. “Kayo” Dugan, agrees to testify but meets a fatal end in a staged accident orchestrated by Friendly. Despite Father Barry’s powerful sermon urging the workers to resist corruption, Terry remains torn between loyalty to his brother and his growing moral awakening.
When Edie discovers Terry’s involvement in Joey’s death, she is heartbroken and ends their relationship. Haunted by his conscience, Terry confesses his role to Father Barry and Edie, setting the stage for a climactic confrontation with the forces of corruption.
