**Storyline:**
In 1993, Joe Doucett, an alcoholic advertising executive, loses a major account and becomes heavily intoxicated. After a night of drinking and casual sex, he notices a woman holding a yellow umbrella before passing out. When he wakes up, he finds himself confined in a mysterious room resembling a hotel. His captors, who remain unseen, provide him with food, alcohol, and basic necessities but never reveal the reason for his imprisonment.
Joe later sees a news report claiming his ex-wife, Donna, was raped and murdered, and he is the prime suspect. Their 3-year-old daughter, Mia, was placed in foster care and adopted. Over the next 20 years, Joe transforms himself—he quits drinking, gets in shape, and prepares for the day he escapes to seek revenge. He compiles a list of potential enemies and writes heartfelt letters to Mia, hoping to reconnect with her someday.
One day, Joe sees a televised interview where Mia mentions she would forgive her father if she ever saw him. Shortly after, he is drugged and wakes up in a field inside a trunk. He is equipped with a cellphone and a small amount of money. While searching for answers, Joe spots the woman with the yellow umbrella but loses her. He encounters Marie Sebastian, a nurse who offers assistance, but he initially refuses, only taking her business card.
Joe visits his friend Chucky’s bar, where he explains his ordeal. He receives a call from a man known as the “Stranger,” who taunts him. Despite his efforts, Joe struggles to identify the Stranger among the names on his list. After collapsing from dehydration, Chucky calls Marie for help. As Joe recovers, Marie is moved by his letters to Mia and decides to assist him further. Together, they discover a Chinese restaurant that supplied food to Joe during his captivity, bringing him closer to uncovering the truth.
