Description: Okko’s Inn, released in 2018, tells the story of Oriko “Okko” Seki, a young girl whose parents tragically pass away in a car accident while returning from a festival. Okko survives the crash and glimpses a boy in the sky before losing consciousness. She later moves to her grandmother Mineko’s traditional ryokan, the Hananoyu Inn, to recover. There, she discovers the boy is a ghost named Makoto Tachiuri, affectionately called “Uribo.” Uribo, who was Mineko’s childhood friend, encourages Okko to take over the inn in the future. Mineko appoints Okko as the “junior innkeeper,” presenting her with her own kimono.
Initially, Okko finds the training overwhelming, but Uribo motivates her to persevere. One day, they encounter a distressed man and his feverish son searching for lodging. Guided by Hananoyu Inn’s principle of never turning anyone away, Okko invites them in. The boy, Akane, is grieving the recent loss of his mother, making him hostile toward others. He longs for the cakes he used to share with his mom. Although the inn lacks cake, Okko creates a unique “hot bath” pudding inspired by the hot springs. The dessert brings comfort to Akane and his father, and Okko discovers joy in bringing happiness to others through her service. Later, the father’s glowing magazine review of the inn elevates Okko’s reputation.
At school, Okko befriends Matsuki Akino, whose family owns the prestigious Harunoya Inn. Matsuki, known for her pink Lolita fashion and literary quotes, is ostracized by her classmates, who mock her as “Big Pink Bow.” Despite initial conflicts, their relationship evolves as the story unfolds.
