Description: The 2017 movie “Ok Jaanu” follows the story of Aditya “Adi” Gunjal (played by Aditya Roy Kapur), who moves to Mumbai to work for a gaming company owned by Prahlad Kakkar. Aspiring to become a successful video game developer in the United States, Adi begins his journey in the bustling city. At Mumbai railway station, he notices a girl (Shraddha Kapoor) attempting to jump in front of an oncoming train. Shocked, Adi calls out to her, and she disappears shortly after.
Adi moves into the home of Gopi Srivastava (Naseeruddin Shah), his elder brother’s senior and a retired High Court judge. Gopi lives with his wife Charu (Leela Samson), a renowned Hindustani classical singer who battles stage two Alzheimer’s disease. At work, Adi is encouraged by his friend Bantee to present his game concept, “Mumbai 2.0,” to his boss. Impressed, Adi is given a five-month deadline to create a prototype for a competition in Los Angeles.
Later, at his friend Jenny’s wedding, Adi encounters the same girl from the railway station. She introduces herself as Tara and reveals her plans to pursue architectural studies in Paris. Adi shares his dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur like Mark Zuckerberg. The two bond over their shared skepticism about the institution of marriage. Tara confesses that her dramatic act at the railway station was a ploy to escape her ex-boyfriend, who wanted to marry her.
As they spend more time together exploring Mumbai, Adi accompanies Tara to Ahmedabad for a work trip. She takes him to Sabarmati Ashram, a place she frequented with her father during her childhood. Tara explains that her parents’ broken marriage influenced her decision to remain unmarried. Despite their separate career aspirations, Adi and Tara decide to live together before parting ways. They approach Gopi and Charu with their plan. Initially resistant, Gopi eventually agrees after Tara impresses Charu with her singing talent.
“Ok Jaanu” is a heartfelt tale of love, ambition, and the complexities of relationships.
