Description: By March 14, 2077, Jack Harper and Victoria “Vika” Olsen are among the last humans on Earth. Sixty years prior, a race of alien scavengers destroyed the Moon and invaded Earth. Although humanity won the war, nuclear weapons and the Moon’s destruction left the planet largely uninhabitable. Vika acts as Jack’s communications officer, while he serves as “Tech 49,” repairing combat drones that hunt remaining scavengers and protect hydrorig generators. These generators convert seawater into fusion energy. Overseen by mission director Sally from the Tet space station orbiting Earth, they prepare to leave for humanity’s new home on Titan. Despite having their memories wiped, Jack experiences recurring dreams of a life before the war with an unknown woman.
While exploring the ruins of the New York Public Library, Jack narrowly escapes a scavenger attack. After a hydrorig is destroyed, he discovers the scavengers are using the Empire State Building’s antenna to transmit coordinates into space. After disabling the transmitter, he visits his secret cabin filled with relics from Earth’s past. An unknown object crashes at the transmitted coordinates, and Jack finds five humans in stasis chambers, including the woman from his dreams. Drones kill the others, but Jack saves her and takes her to his base. He and Vika revive the woman, whose name is Julia, and learn she was aboard her ship, *Odyssey*, since before the war.
Jack and Julia return to the crash site to recover *Odyssey*’s flight recorder but are captured by scavengers and taken to Raven Rock Mountain Complex. Their leader, Malcolm Beech, reveals the scavengers are humans disguising themselves to avoid drones. After another drone attacks, Beech lets them go, urging Jack to uncover the truth in the “radiation zone.” Julia reveals she is Jack’s wife, prompting his memories of proposing to her at the Empire State Building.
