**Storyline:**
Inspired by a fly fishing lure on the wall and Seligman’s admiration for Izaak Walton’s *The Compleat Angler*, Joe begins her story by recounting her early fascination with sex during childhood. She adores her tree-loving father, a doctor, while describing her mother as a “cold bitch.” In her teenage years, Joe loses her virginity to Jerôme, a young man who leaves her unimpressed after their first encounter. Seligman notes that the number of times Jerôme penetrated her resembles the Fibonacci sequence.
Years later, Joe competes with her friend B on a train journey to see who can seduce the most passengers before arriving at the station. Joe wins by performing a blowjob on a married man in first class, S, whom she forces herself on despite his resistance. She later confesses to Seligman that this was the first of many terrible acts, but he dismisses her guilt.
Over pastries, Joe discusses her first experiences with love, which she dismisses as “lust with jealousy.” She and her friends form a club, “The Little Flock,” to free themselves from society’s obsession with love.
