Description: Now Is Good (2012) is a poignant film about Tessa, a 17-year-old girl battling terminal acute lymphoblastic leukemia. With the help of her best friend Zoey, Tessa sets out to complete a secret bucket list before her time runs out. One night, they meet two boys at a club and attempt to have casual encounters.
Tessa, known for her sense of humor, appears on a radio talk show with her overprotective father, where she jokes about her terminal illness. She shares a loving bond with her younger brother Cal, feeling guilty for overshadowing him with her illness. Meanwhile, her father cherishes every moment with her, while her mother struggles to be present.
After removing her chemotherapy equipment, Testa decides to live the rest of her life as normally as possible. She meets Adam, a kind neighbor who has put his life on hold to care for his disabled mother. The two quickly become friends, and Adam joins Tessa and Zoey on their adventures, including a trip to the forest while under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms and a wild party where Tessa and Adam’s feelings for each other begin to grow.
Tessa and Zoey continue ticking off items on the bucket list, even resorting to shoplifting, which leads to Tessa discovering Zoey’s potential pregnancy. As Tessa’s health declines, she and Adam grow closer, sharing romantic moments at the beach. However, Tessa’s father worries about the relationship, warning Adam that he may not be able to handle the challenges ahead.
The film explores themes of love, friendship, and resilience as Tessa navigates her final days with courage and humor.
