Description: Nix (2022) is a psychological horror film directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, co-written with Woodrow Wilson Hancock III, James Zimbardi, and Skyler Caleb, all of whom also star in the movie. Known for the Sharknado series, Ferrante has struggled to replicate that success since the franchise ended, with projects like Zombie Tidal Wave failing to produce sequels. He has since ventured into Christmas films, Lifetime Network thrillers, and the family-friendly musical Time Pirates on Tubi.
With Nix, Ferrante returns to the serious horror genre, reminiscent of his earlier works like Boo. The film opens in the past, where Tessa (Angelina Karo) awakens from a nightmare about a creature in a lake, only to die by the end of the day, seemingly killed by the same beast. In the present, her family remains haunted by her death. Jack (James Zimbardi), the most stable family member, works at a theater on the verge of closing. His girlfriend Liz (Angie Teodora Dick) urges him to move on, but the family’s unresolved grief ties him to them. His brother Lucas (Skyler Caleb) is unemployed, tormented by voices from the day Tessa died, while their mother Donna (Dee Wallace) clings to the belief that Tessa is still alive, lost somewhere for 25 years. The family bizarrely continues to celebrate Tessa’s eighth birthday annually.
