Description: The film “Nirbaak” (2015) tells a unique story centered around its protagonist, Anjan Dutt, who struggles with schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder. Anjan is deeply self-absorbed, often embodying different roles in his daily life—acting as his own husband, wife, and even writing letters to his deceased mother. The narrative begins on his birthday, where he spends time pampering himself, visiting a park, and reading a book titled *Make Yourself Unforgettable*. During his park visit, he encounters Sushmita Sen, a regular visitor, who shares her sorrows with him. Anjan responds with a simple yet profound message: “Love Yourself.”
Later, Anjan celebrates his birthday alone at a restaurant, cutting his cake and playfully smearing cream on his face as if he were with an imaginary partner. That night, he returns home drunk and engages in self-pleasure, imagining he is with a lover. The next day, he suffers a serious accident in his bathroom, severely injuring his head and requiring hospitalization.
Another layer of the story revolves around Sushmita, an author living in Calcutta. She is deeply attached to her city and reluctant to leave it for her boyfriend, Jisshu Sengupta. Interestingly, the protagonist in this segment is a tree in the park where Sushmita frequently sits. The camera angles suggest the tree watches her closely, filled with lust, as she kisses her boyfriend.
“Nirbaak” explores themes of self-love, obsession, and unconventional perspectives, making it a thought-provoking cinematic experience.
