However, his foresight is limited to only two minutes, with one exception: a vision he once had of a woman entering a diner. Driven by this mystery, Cris visits the diner daily at 8:09, hoping to meet her. He works as a small-time magician in Las Vegas and supplements his income by gambling, using his powers to win modest amounts.
Cris’s abilities attract the attention of FBI agent Callie Ferris, who believes his gift can help prevent Russian terrorists from detonating a nuclear weapon. Before she can approach him, Cris’s gambling activities draw the suspicion of casino security. Using his foresight, he manages to evade both security and the Las Vegas police. Ferris eventually tracks him down, but Cris predicts her arrival and escapes. Meanwhile, the casino’s security chief is interrogated and killed by the terrorists.
The next morning, Cris finally encounters Liz Cooper, the woman from his vision. He discovers that his abilities extend beyond seeing the future; he can also foresee how his actions shape potential outcomes. When Liz’s ex-boyfriend arrives, Cris uses his foresight to intervene in a way that earns her trust. Learning she is traveling to Flagstaff, Arizona, Cris convinces Liz to give him a ride. Ferris follows them, and the terrorists decide to eliminate Cris.
As the nuclear weapon is traced to Los Angeles, Ferris convinces her superiors to involve Cris in the mission. The terrorists pursue Cris, hoping the agents will lead them to him.
