Description: Lee Ja-Sung, played by Lee Jung-jae, is an undercover police officer embedded in Goldmoon International, South Korea’s largest corporate crime syndicate. After eight years of risky work, he faces constant danger of exposure. Chief Kang, portrayed by Choi Min-sik, repeatedly delays his promise to reassign Ja-Sung to a safer overseas police position. When Ja-Sung threatens to quit, Chief Kang blackmails him, threatening to reveal his true identity to the syndicate, which would lead to a brutal death.
The story intensifies when the chairman of Goldmoon dies in an accident, sparking a power struggle between Jung Chung, supported by the Northmoon clan, and Lee Joong-gu, backed by the Jaebum faction. Chief Kang manipulates Jung and Joong-gu into conflict, hoping they will destroy each other and pave the way for Jang Su-Ki, a weak figure, to become the new chairman. Kang blackmails Jung into leaking evidence against Joong-gu in exchange for a pardon. After Joong-gu is arrested, Kang reveals Jung’s betrayal, prompting Joong-gu to order Jung’s assassination. Before dying, Jung, aware of Ja-Sung’s secret identity, urges him to choose his loyalty, leaving Ja-Sung torn.
Devastated by Jung’s death and fearing Joong-gu’s retaliation, Ja-Sung begs Chief Kang to reassign him. However, when Joong-gu’s men attack Ja-Sung’s home, his wife suffers a miscarriage. Kang refuses to help, destroying Ja-Sung’s police profile to keep him in the syndicate. Betrayed and desperate, Ja-Sung fully embraces his criminal role, taking control of Jung’s faction and securing the loyalty of Su-ki’s men.
