The inspiration for the movie came from a fleeting moment of emotional distress Simon experienced during a flight to Europe, which he felt compelled to capture on screen.
Shot in an unplanned and instinctive manner, the editing process brought unexpected surprises, with Simon describing it as a “love-at-first-sight” experience with the footage. He managed to complete the project over a year while juggling two other works, resulting in this deeply personal and spontaneous creation.
Simon expressed gratitude to Chorki for releasing the film on his birthday, a gesture that added emotional significance to the occasion. In a world filled with challenges and pain, he emphasized the importance of finding ways to overcome fear and celebrate life.
Unlike many filmmakers who prioritize international premieres, Simon chose to release “Neel Mukut” locally first. Despite this, the film has gained recognition globally, screening at nearly 50 international festivals and earning accolades such as the Grand Prix at Cinema Du Reel and the Golden Conch at the Mumbai International Film Festival.
This project adds to Simon’s impressive portfolio, which includes his debut film, “Are You Listening!,” which won a National Film Award and ten international awards. “Neel Mukut” continues to showcase his unique storytelling and artistic vision.
