Description: Twenty-five years later, the three childhood friends have grown apart, though they still reside in Boston. Jimmy, now an ex-con, manages a local convenience store, while Sean works as a detective with the Massachusetts State Police. Dave, haunted by the trauma of his childhood abduction and assault, lives a quiet life as a blue-collar worker. Jimmy and Dave remain neighbors and are connected through marriage. Meanwhile, Sean struggles with the recent departure of his pregnant wife, Lauren, who calls him frequently but refuses to speak. Jimmy’s 19-year-old daughter, Katie, is secretly dating Brendan Harris, a young man from a family Jimmy deeply dislikes. Katie and Brendan plan to elope to Las Vegas.
One evening, Katie goes out with her friends, and Dave spots her at a local bar. Later that night, Katie is found murdered. Dave returns home bloodied and injured, claiming he fought off a mugger and may have killed him.
As Sean and his partner, Sergeant Whitey Powers, investigate the murder, Jimmy launches his own inquiry using his neighborhood connections. Sean uncovers that Katie seemed to recognize her killer and that the murder weapon, a .38 Special revolver, was also used in a 1984 liquor store robbery by “Just Ray” Harris, Brendan’s father. Ray has been missing since 1989, but Brendan insists his father still sends the family $500 each month. Brendan also denies knowing anything about the gun.
Whitey grows suspicious of Dave, whose story about his injuries keeps changing. Dave’s erratic behavior alarms his wife, who eventually leaves their home and confides in Jimmy, expressing her fear that Dave may be connected to Katie’s murder.
