Description: JJ, a former US Special Forces soldier, becomes a CIA operative but fails his first major mission: stopping an illegal plutonium trade in Pripyat between the Russian mafia and a terrorist named Hassan. Despite this setback, his boss assigns him to monitor the family of Victor Marquez, a French arms dealer who has obtained plans for a miniaturized nuclear bomb. Victor’s brother, David, had stolen these plans before being murdered, and JJ is tasked with watching David’s widow, Kate, and their 9-year-old daughter, Sophie, who now live in Chicago.
JJ and his tech operator, Bobbi, move into their apartment building to conduct surveillance. However, Sophie discovers one of their hidden cameras and confronts them. She blackmails JJ into spending time with her, helping her adjust to her new life and make friends at school. Despite JJ’s social awkwardness, they form a bond, and he grows closer to Kate and her neighbors. Sophie even convinces JJ to teach her basic spy skills.
When JJ’s boss learns of his personal involvement with the family, he removes him from the mission. JJ confesses his assignment to Kate, who feels betrayed. Meanwhile, Victor uncovers the CIA’s surveillance and tracks down the hidden plans. He fakes his death, confronts Kate and JJ, and retrieves the plans. Kate’s neighbors, Carlos and Todd, reveal themselves as rival arms dealers and intervene. In the chaos, Bobbi’s clumsy actions allow Victor to escape with the plans and take Sophie hostage.
