Description: The 2020 Hindi movie *My Client’s Wife* explores a complex psychological thriller narrative. Though it could easily be dismissed as pretentious due to the characters’ deceptive behavior, the film actually carries a sense of sincerity in its execution. While it hints at numerous sexual encounters, the creators have intentionally kept the content restrained. However, like many psychological thrillers, the plot often strays into unnecessary twists and misleading clues, aiming primarily to shock the audience. The filmmakers suggest the story is based on true events, adding an element of intrigue—after all, truth can be stranger than fiction.
Set in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, the story begins with Sindoori Singh, a woman packing her belongings and burning photographs before fleeing her home. Upstairs, her husband, Raghuram Singh, is found tied up and shouting. He is later arrested for domestic violence, despite showing severe bruising on his hands, likely caused by a knife. While in custody, Raghuram shares his side of the story with Inspector Shrivastav and his lawyer, Manas Verma.
During the investigation, Shrivastav discovers that a cable TV technician was present in the house when Raghuram arrived and allegedly attacked him before fleeing. Manas Verma takes it upon himself to dig deeper and meets Sindoori, who offers a questionable account of events. Meanwhile, Raghuram insists that Manas reads his diary for crucial evidence, but this request is ignored until much later. Raghuram accuses his wife of being a nymphomaniac, claiming she invites strangers into their home in his absence. His version of events, much like Sindoori’s, remains dubious and contradictory.
The film delves into themes of deception, manipulation, and the blurred lines between truth and fiction, leaving viewers questioning the reliability of each character’s narrative.
