Genre: Comedy;Romance
Description: Three weeks before turning 28, Julianne “Jules” Potter, a food critic from New York City, gets a call from her longtime friend Michael O’Neal, a sportswriter from Chicago. Years ago, they made a pact to marry each other if they were both still single by the age of 28. Michael informs her that he is set to marry Kimmy Wallace, a college student eight years younger than him, whose father owns the Chicago White Sox. Realizing she’s in love with Michael, Jules decides to sabotage the wedding. She travels to Chicago, reunites with Michael, and meets Kimmy, who asks her to be the maid of honor.
Jules plots to break up the couple, but her plan to embarrass Kimmy at a karaoke bar fails. She then manipulates Kimmy into getting her father to offer Michael a job, knowing it would upset him, but this also doesn’t work. Frustrated, Jules seeks advice from her friend George Downes, who suggests she confess her feelings to Michael. Instead, Jules pretends to be engaged to George to make Michael jealous. George, who is gay, goes along with it but ends up embarrassing Jules at a lunch with the wedding party by singing “I Say a Little Prayer,” with the entire restaurant joining in.
After George leaves, Jules tells Michael that her “relationship” with George is over. Michael admits to feeling jealous and gives her the chance to express her true feelings, but she lets the moment slip away. They share a dance as Michael sings “The Way You Look Tonight.”
The day before the wedding, Jules uses Kimmy’s father’s email account to draft a message to Michael’s boss, requesting his termination so Kimmy’s father can hire him. She saves the message instead of sending it, but later discovers that Kimmy’s father unknowingly sent it.
